On 6 July 2015, China Power Engineering Consulting Group Corporation (CPECC) signed investment contract of Hai Duong BOT Project with Jaks Resources Berhad, a Malaysian public company. Both parties will work together to invest 1.87 billion dollars to a power generation project in Hai Duong province, Vietnam. This BOT project has a 25-year franchise period. After that, it will be transferred to Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Involving three countries, this project is CPECC’s biggest overseas investment project and Chinese company’s biggest overseas investment project in Vietnam. Being of great importance for Go Global strategy, it has been designated as a key project of Belt and Road initiative.
Working with Vietnam law firm VILAF, Beijing office and Shanghai office acted as legal counsel, playing an important role in contract drafting and negotiation, with Jiang Wei as team leader and George K.H.Lee (Hong Kong office) and Zhou Xing as members.
