Barry Yen is responsible for the HK firm's Intellectual Property practice. Having graduated from the University of New South Wales, he has been admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong, New South Wales, the Federal Court of Australia, and England and Wales.
Barry's intellectual property expertise is recognized and reflected in his inclusion in the Guide to the World's Leading Experts in Trade Mark Law and the Hong Kong WHO's WHO of the Law. Barry has also been honored by inclusion in Asia Law's list of "Leading Lawyers" for IP and also e-commerce work. The World Trademark Review described Barry as a “well-published thought leader on intellectual property” and a recommended expert in the field.
Barry promotes IP awareness through speaking at conferences across Asia Pacific, including in Australia, Canada, China, United States, and Vietnam. His articles on IP law and practice development have been published in such journals as International Corporate Law, Trademark World, Revue du Droit de la Propriete Intellectuelle, Trademark Yearbook, and Trade Marks: World Law & Practice.
Barry is a longstanding member of the International Trademark Association (INTA), the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA) and the Hong Kong Institute of Trade Mark Practitioners (HKITMP), where he served as President. He has contributed to many INTA committees discussing topical issues like “amicus briefs”, “East Asia & Pacific” law, developments in case law and most recently INTA’s Presidential Task Force 2023-24. Barry has also assisted to educate the next generation of practitioners by lecturing for The University of Hong Kong, Macquarie University's Graduate School of Management, as well as serving as an independent assessor for Civil Advocacy pupils.
